ASSIGNMENT: Complete the tasks below. Answer the reflection question in the Comment Section below.

In the comments, reflect on one or more of the following:

  1. What’s the biggest challenge you anticipate when reaching out to publishers?

  2. If you could send an email to your dream publisher today, what’s the one sentence you’d want to make sure they read?

  3. Have you identified a publisher or agent that aligns with your book? If not, what’s one step you can take to start that research?

💡 Bonus: If you’re comfortable, share a takeaway from this session—what’s one thing you learned about querying that surprised you

The biggest challenge I anticipate on, when dealing with a publisher is if, or not they want to deal with a Christian based book, and being firm in my belief I wouldn't want them to ask me to change some things around. I haven't sought a publisher just yet, because I was wondering should I push it myself. One of the sentence that I would use to attract the publisher is, this book is as good, or better than any superhero book you ever read.

  1. The biggest challenge I anticipate when reaching out to publishers would be is my story unique enough to stand out.

  2. Not sure what sentence I would like for the publisher to read but if anything it would be why I wrote this book.

  3. I have not identified a publisher or agent yet. One step that I can take would to look for authors with my genere and who they used to publish their book.

Bonus: One thing I learned was that publishers have guidelines and if you do not follow the guidelines you jeopardize yourself with getting a rejection.

  1. The biggest challenge I anticipate is the fact that I’m using a specific cultural myth to create my young adult novel but using my knowledge of the age group to present things teens often deal with from the perspective of a young person. When I talk about it the response is often that the idea is interesting but there is no acknowledgment of the way problems or experiences are addressed. I need to find a way to make it clear that the cultural knowledge I have is significant, but teaching for 27 years is also part of my expertise (without sounding like I’m over explaining).

  2. I wish I knew, but I’m honestly not sure.

  3. I haven’t looked into publishers yet.…

  1. The biggest challenge I anticipate? I'm not concerned about the "no's" I will get. With this type of book, I am expecting a lot! My challenge would be defending the book. I can show the evidence but if the reader is unfamiliar; if the reader has not looked at tablets, studied scripture or examed the many steles, is he or she even qualified to have objections? I want be in a position to boldly defend my book against all objections.

  2. The one sentence I would want to make sure they read is: "The truth is absolute, there is no wiggle room!" The unspoken agreement between the powers that be to keep the truth hidden has come to an end. The…

One challenge I'm considering is that many of the publishers I'm seeing for my genre (fiction, fantasy) won't accept submissions if I don't have an agent. Is this something worth looking into? I'm also willing to take time since I have a LOT to write still 😅
